Backpacking Stove and Cookware
Backpacking trips require a lightweight stove, fuel and cookware. The good news is that the older scouts tend to have these, the younger ones can borrow or share.
Backpacking Stove
This is a small, lightweight stove. The one shown is an MSR “Pocket Rocket”, and you’ll hear people use “Pocket Rocket” as a generic term for this type of stove. Warning: be sure to google “Pocket Rocket Stove“. There are other devices with the name “pocket rocket”.
This type of stove is available at Walmart, Sierra Trading Post, and other camping stores.
Cookware
The type of cookware needed will vary with the menu. The regular BSA style mess kit is usually fine.
Note
Stoves are designed to take a certain sized pot, so make sure that the stove you select will fit the pot and/or pan that will be used. If the pot is to narrow to fit on all three arms of the stove, you need to get a different stove or pot.
