On October 23rd, a group of Scouts in the troop decided to hike 10 miles of the AT trail, warming up for the 20 miler later in November. We set off at a brisk pace, allowing the younger scouts to take lead us using only a map and a compass. After walking many miles uphill, we reached the Lion’s Head, which gave us a beautiful view, and rested a bit to recover. Energized once again, we hiked uphill for many miles, in heavily blowing winds, to reach the highest peak in Connecticut, where we ate lunch while the wind blew around us. We then walked downhill all the way to the Massachusetts border, carefully scaling down the slippery rocks without slipping, which we were mostly successful with. When we finally got there, we refilled on water quickly, and went right back the way we came and drove back home. Though the hike was tiring, we all had a great experience and felt much more prepared for the upcoming hike coming later this November.
